It's my hope that the inordinate amount time I've spent watching, listening, and thinking can be useful for something - in this case making films less suck (see Joshua's Rant above). I tend to not write standardized reviews as the theorist in me would rather get into the deep details of what is really causing something to be un/successful.
As a writer, my criticisms are going to be largely concerned with story, characters, and plot rather than the technical aspects of film making. While the elements of photography, sound, and editing must be well done for a film to succeed, the script will always be where a movie can begin to succeed - or where it begins to absolutely fail.
I am seem to often give the impression of disliking most things, but the truth is that because I so strongly Want things to be good - because I Want stories, characters, films to be successful in Affecting me, I hold films up to such a strong critical eye, so that the ones that follow may be more successful in discovering something important and true.
